The Henry County Highway Department is responsible for the maintenance of all county roads and bridges. This currently consists of 777 miles of road and 145 bridges. The revenue for this maintenance comes from the Motor Vehicle Highway fund, the Local Road and Street fund, the LOHUT (wheel tax and surtax) fund, and the Cumulative Bridge fund.
Permits
Permits are required for any excavation or driveway installations or driveway modifications.
These include: •Any new driveway installations (includes field entrances). •Any excavation in the right of way. •Any open cutting of the roadway (non-utility) for installation of pipes, etc. •All utility installations in the right of way shall be permitted through the Surveyors office (same permit form can be used). •All overweight or oversize loads on county roads.
